What Is Line Jetting?

Our line jetting process is designed for maximum efficiency and minimal disruption. It begins by inserting a high-pressure jetting hose and specialized nozzle into the pipeline, typically through a manhole, cleanout, or other access point. From there, we follow a proven approach to provide a thorough and effective clean:

  • Nozzle selection: We start by choosing the right nozzle based on the diameter of the pipe and the nature of the debris. Different nozzle types allow us to target everything from soft grease buildup to hardened mineral deposits and intrusive tree roots.
  • High-pressure jetting: Once in place, the nozzle blasts water at pressures of up to several thousand PSI. This force breaks apart sludge, scours away buildup along the pipe walls, and dislodges even the most stubborn obstructions.
  • Debris extraction: As blockages are broken down, a powerful vacuum system simultaneously removes the loosened debris from the line. This prevents recontamination and ensures a clean, open flow path.
  • Final Inspection and prep: After the line is cleared, we inspect our work and verify that the line is ready for immediate use or follow-up work such as video pipe inspection, rehabilitation, or flow testing.

Every job is different. That’s why we tailor our approach to the specific conditions of your project.  Whether it’s scheduled maintenance, root intrusion removal, or an emergency caused by a severe clog, our team evaluates every line’s size, material, history, and environmental conditions to deliver exceptional results.

Equipment & Capabilities

Superior Hydrovac uses jetter and combo trucks loaded with the right tools to handle tough cleaning jobs. With hoses that stretch up to 400 feet, we can reach deep into hard-to-access areas. Different nozzles, like root cutters and flushers, let us match the tool to the task, and our powerful vacuums quickly remove thick, heavy debris to keep things moving smoothly.

We can safely clean lines up to 48 inches in diameter, and in special cases, even larger pipes, up to 96 inches, where we remove bulk debris from the bottom or “belly” of the pipe.

Our specialized equipment also includes easement reels for reaching remote or hard-to-access outfalls. These compact, track-mounted machines allow us to extend our cleaning reach well beyond the limits of a standard truck, providing quality results, even in challenging terrain.

Applications of Line Jetting

Superior Hydrovac’s line jetting services are well-suited for a variety of commercial, municipal, and residential scenarios. Our high-pressure water jetting technology is versatile and powerful, making it a valuable solution for many different situations where cleanliness, safety, and efficiency are essential. Common applications include:

  • Pre-inspection cleaning for video pipe inspections: Jetting clears the way for clear and accurate camera footage, allowing inspectors to see the true condition of the pipe without interference from debris or obstructions.
  • New construction and infrastructure turnover: Before newly installed lines are turned over to municipalities or utility owners, we provide a thorough cleaning to remove construction residue, sediment, and foreign materials.
  • Routine maintenance for stormwater and sanitary sewer systems: Preventative jetting helps keep these critical systems flowing properly, reducing the risk of blockages, overflows, and costly emergency repairs.
  • Emergency response to clogged or backed-up lines: In urgent situations, our rapid-response jetting services clear obstructions and restore function quickly, minimizing downtime and property damage.
  • Cleaning of outfalls, culverts, and easements: Our team is equipped to clean in hard-to-reach, remote, or environmentally sensitive areas where traditional methods are ineffective or disruptive.

Whether your goal is to prevent future issues, respond to an urgent problem, or prepare a line for inspection or approval, Superior Hydrovac delivers reliable results tailored to your project’s needs.

No matter your role or industry, Superior Hydrovac is committed to delivering professional, responsive service that keeps your projects moving and your systems flowing.

Preventive Maintenance & Scheduling

One of the best ways to avoid expensive repairs and service interruptions is to schedule routine line jetting. Preventive maintenance helps keep storm and sewer lines flowing freely, especially in high-traffic areas or places with heavy debris loads like restaurants and commercial buildings.

Recommended intervals for jetting depend on usage, environment, and infrastructure age. For most clients, we suggest scheduling service every 6 to 12 months, or in advance of major events or seasonal weather changes.

You should also schedule line jetting services:

  • After heavy rainfall or flooding
  • Before CCTV inspections
  • When visible debris accumulates near drains
  • If ground depressions, cracking, or sinkholes appear
  • When interior drains slow or back up

Risks of Delaying Line Jetting Services

Postponing or ignoring the need for line jetting services can lead to far more than just a slow drain. Over time, debris, grease, roots, and sediment can accumulate to the point where they completely block your system or cause it to fail. This can trigger a cascade of costly and disruptive consequences, including:

  • Sewage backups: Blocked sewer lines can force raw sewage to back up into homes, businesses, or streets.
  • Internal flooding and water damage: Clogged lines can cause overflowing drains or broken pipes, leading to extensive water damage that can damage floors, walls, and foundations.
  • Road or sidewalk closures: Blocked or collapsed sewer lines require excavation, which can cause road closures, sidewalk detours, and public inconvenience.
  • Costly emergency repairs: Emergency services cost significantly more than routine maintenance, and repairs may involve tearing up landscaping, flooring, or pavement to access damaged pipes.
  • Health and safety risks: Standing sewage and dirty drain water are breeding grounds for bacteria, mold, and other pathogens.
  • Structural damage: Undetected leaks or pressure buildup caused by blockages can crack or collapse pipes, leading to foundation problems, sinkholes, or structural shifts in buildings and roadways.
  • Ongoing plumbing issues: Frequent clogs, slow drains, foul odors, and gurgling noises are all signs of a system that’s under stress.
  • Reduced property value: A history of plumbing problems or visible signs of damage can can lower market appeal.
  • Business interruptions: For commercial properties, a backed-up sewer line can mean temporarily closing doors, losing customers, or halting operations.

Routine line jetting is a small investment compared to the massive costs of reactive cleanup and repair. Preventive maintenance keeps your pipes flowing freely, extends the life of your system, and protects your property, your wallet, and your peace of mind.
